Enjoy a "German Afternoon High Coffee" and "Konditorei"- style cake buffet at the new ECHT Coffee Lounge, a traditional German-style coffee house and bistro that brings German coffee culture to Pittsburgh.
The tradition started when the Serail of the Ottoman Empire brought coffee to Germany and during the time when German royal families started manufacturing European china and silverware. During the period of the German Romanticism around 1780, these Afternoon Coffee events became a tradition outside of the courts. German families and friends are invited to a table with coffee and a variation of German-style cakes with lots of whipped cream. Traditionally, table serving involves table cloth, china and silver ware.
For the German Afternoon High Coffee at ECHT, the typical German- style surge coffee brewing is offered (made in a historic porcelain filter pot from Berlin). Guests can also enjoy original ceramic Melitta Filter drip (invented in Dresden), Turkish coffee brewed in copper cesves from Istanbul, or the full spectrum of Italian espresso drinks. The single origin beans are imported from Ethiopia, the birth place of the coffee tree, they are roasted in-house using state of the art equipment.
ECHT brings German Kaffee-Haus culture and Konditorei-baking to Pittsburgh. For the event, a Berlin baker will be at ECHT to help bake some old family recipes. In the German tradition, a server will guide you to a cake buffet, you can point to your selection, and the baked goodies will be served at your table. And of course, you can go back to the cake buffet for more!
