One of Germany’s top diplomats, Mr. Gill grew up in the former East Germany and was a key player in the dismantling of that country’s Ministry of State Security (Stasi) after the fall of the Wall.
Gill received training to become a plumber in the GDR and attended the Theological Seminary of the Protestant Church in Berlin-Brandenburg. He later studied in Philadelphia and in Berlin.
He was Chairman of Normannenstrasse Citizens’ Committee at the headquarters of the Ministry of State Security – Stasi. Gill served as Spokesman and Head of Division of the Federal Commissioner for the Files of the State Security Service of the former GDR and later as
Desk Officer in the Federal Ministry of the Interior and in the Office of Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information. He served as the Deputy Representative of the Council of the Protestant Church in Germany (EKD) to the Federal Republic of Germany and the EU and, prior to coming to New York in his current role, as State Secretary and Head of the Office of the Federal President.
